Fishing and Species

There are 29 rivers and streams with trout fishing within a 90 minute drive of the lodge. Additional water can be accessed via heli.

Arrivals and Departures

The lodge is flexible on arrival and departure days and length of stay. There is a 3 night minimum stay.

Accomodations

The 6 purpose built guest cottage suites at Owen River Lodge were designed with the angler and non-angler in mind. They are located in the garden a short stroll from the main lodge building. These luxuriously appointed guest cottage suites enjoy stunning views of the river, the valley and the Kahurangi national park, with the delightful sound of the Owen river in the background. Each of their accommodation suites can be configured with either a king-size double bed or twin single beds. All of the accommodation suites are equipped with reverse cycle air conditioning, an electronic safe, ironing facilities, an alarm clock, mini bar – stocked with complimentary soft drinks & premium fruit juices and tea & coffee making facilities.

Non Anglers / Activities

Mountain biking, hiking, farm tours, rafting, horseback riding and golf.

Airport / Logistics

Most guests fly into Nelson. You can either rent a car and drive the 90 minutes to the lodge or the lodge will arrange a transfer.

Climate

Summer temperatures range from the 50's to the 80's. It is cooler early and late season.

Included

All meals, including a cooked English breakfast, great picnic lunches and a multi course dinner, house wine and beer, daily guided fishing, New Zealand GST (tax), the use of loaner Simms waders and Sage rods.

Not Included

Airport transfers, fishing license, fly outs, gratuities, non house wine, beer and spirits.

Owen River Lodge opened in November 2003 as the vision of the fish crazed owner Felix Borenstein. It is now owned by Eleven Angling and they are continuing the high level of hospitality and guided fishing. The warm and genuine hospitality, with incredible food, combined with the lodge and 6 guest cabins make for the perfect home from which to explore the areas bounty of trout fishing. As they only take 12 guests max, individual attention is given to each angler to pursue their dreams of fly fishing.

Their flexibility on length of stay and arrival and departure days makes Owen River Lodge a great option to combine with fishing in other parts of New Zealand, unguided fishing or vacationing in New Zealand.
