The 2013 rate for 7 nights/6 days fishing is $4550 per person based on sharing a guide and room. Shorter and extended stays are available. The Argentina and Chile "moveable feast" combo is a favorite and should be considered by all anglers.

Fishing and Species

The fishing is for rainbows and brown trout. You will use dry flies, streamers and nymphs. Typically you will float a different river every day. There is the option (if it is fishing well) to do a 3 or 4 day float on the Chebut River. This is though a 600,000 acre ranch, with no roadside poachers to screw with your fishing. It is outstanding. Even though you do a lot of floating, there is certainly time to get out and wade fish. There is also the option to do a combo trip that fishes both Argentina and Chile. This is a road trip with a lot of change in scenery and fishing. You will stay in local hosterias in Chile. This is a lot of fun if you are up for an angling road trip.

Arrivals and Departures

Arroyo Claro is flexible on length of stay, day of arrival and departure. Guests fish anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks.

Accomodations

There are four large well-appointed guest rooms in the main lodge. Each has two beds and a private private bath.

Non Anglers / Activities

Horse back riding on our ranch (5,000 acres). Visit to Los Alerces National Park – Lodge is 3 miles from park’s north entrance. Big boat ride on Lago Menendez to Glaciers (very scenic) of Cerro Torrecillas. Hiking – just behind the lodge there are many trails with no tourists. Butch Cassidy cabin is 20 miles away. Museum “LeLeque Estancia” is about Patagonia history. Ride to the Museum on the Patagonia Express. El Bolson artisans fair is 1 hour away Bird watching for Condors/Flamingos Visit Welsh Tea House about 12 miles away

Airport / Logistics

Guests should fly into Bariloche or Esquel. Bariloche has the most flights and Esquel is the closest. Your flight will be met and you will be transferred to the lodge.

Climate

Daytime temperatures range from 50 to 85 degrees depending on the time of year of your visit and what the weather does that week. Early and late season are cooler.

Included

Airport transfers, lodging, all meals, all beverages including wine, beer, soda and water.

Not Included

Fishing license, flies and rental tackle.

Currency/Credit Cards

There is no need to change currency for the lodge, US dollars are fine. In Buenos Aires, credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants. Cash in Argentine or US dollars is best. The lodge does not take credit cards.

Gratuities

Suggested gratuities are $30-40 per day for the guide and $20+ per day for the staff. Argentina is all about the hospitality. It is not even an effort, it is how they live. Arroyo Claro embodies this.

Medical Facilities

The nearest medical facilities are in Esquel and the nearest hospital is in Bariloche. Medevac coverage is recommended.

Documentation

A Passport is required for entry and return by US citizens. There is a departure tax.

Beverages

The lodge includes generous quantities of wine, beer, water and soft drinks. If you would like a little single malt or another spirit feel free to bring it.

The heart of Arroyo Claro Lodge is the dean of Argentine guides, Jorge Graziosi. The soul of it is the superb fishing he cares so much about and has been doing for over 40 years. His warm hospitality and eagerness to show you the waters makes it special. Built in 1999, with post and beam construction, the lodge is located in the beautiful Carrileufu Valley, ten miles south of the small village of Cholila, in the middle of trout fishing country. The lodge has four spacious guest rooms for 8 anglers. Each room faces the mountains and the large windows allow spectacular views of the range’s jagged peaks. The rooms are spacious with a private bath and all the amenities you would expect.

Connecting the bedrooms to the main living area is a hallway wide enough to hang waders and leave wet wading shoes (and ride a horse through). In the main lodge you will find a large vaulted room that includes the dining and living areas and a huge open fireplace. The food is outstanding, with fresh local ingredients and the Argentine that spices make it unique. The wine is always great, never in short supply and a memorable part of the trip.

Only 30 yards away from the main lodge, there is a private cabin with 2 bedrooms, each with private bath, and a large living room. Built on a hillside, it has a commanding view of the Carrileufu River valley, the surrounding Andes and native forest. This is an option for families or a small group.

The fishing opportunities include the Carrileufu River, within easy walking distance of the lodge, and day float trip on the amazing Rio Rivadavia that covers the entire river from lake to lake. Other waters fished are sections of the Futalafu, the private Arroyo Pescado Spring Creek, Nant y fal and Rio Pico. Depending on the time of year and the fishing, a three day/two night float trip on the Chebut is also an option. The Chebut winds through a 600,000 acre private estancia and offers some epic trout fishing with dries and streamers. Another option is a multi-day fishing road trip to Chile. This is a great chance to fish some new waters while staying in and eating at local hosterias. The experienced guides from the lodge are also your guides on this adventure.
