Fishing and Species
Most all of the fishing is wade fishing for bonefish and various trevally's. In addition there are triggerfish, sweetlips and assorted species. The fishing is accessed via a fast planing hull Zodiac. The tides in this area are larger than those on Christmas Island. These larger pushes and exchanges of water make the fishing very dynamic.

If you have been saltwater fly fishing for the last 15 years, and heard of or experienced a trip to the Seychelles, you have probably know of the yacht High Aspect and her owners Keith and Linda. They were there from the beginning, and helped to facilitate the original show that Larry Dahlberg did. Remember that episode of “The Hunt for Big Fish”, where Larry caught 2 bonefish on 2 flies on the same cast?

They bring stellar hospitality and food, an exemplary safety record and a passion for exploring new waters to fly fish. In 2011 Keith and Linda secured permits to fish a group of islands on their world class 72’ sailing yacht, in the Republic of Kiribati, 1200 miles west of Christmas Island. Because of logistical problems the 2012 is uncertain.

The 6 atolls that they are exploring and will fish have varied habitats and a range of species. Top on the list are bonefish and our old friend and nemesis the Trevally family. All fishing will be done by wading, with access to the flats in a new Zodiac. This is not a trip for first-time anglers as there is no guiding available at this time.

Accommodations are aboard High Aspect with 4 staterooms and 3 bathrooms with showers. The trips are ideal for 4 single anglers or up to 3 couples. The trip length will range from 7 to 12 days.

The logistics are to fly to Fiji (usually non-stop via Los Angeles), then to Tarawa, the capital of Kiribati. From Tarawa there will either be a scheduled or chartered island hopper flight to meet the boat.

I am fortunate to have done two expeditions with them, one in 1998 to St Joseph and St Francois, and in 2000 to Farquhar, Cosmoledo and Aldabra. As one customer said at the end of the trip, “This was the best fly fishing trip I have ever been on. If there was space I would ante up and do another 11 day trip right now.”
