Fishing and Species

This part of Tierra del Fuego is amazing, and like nothing anywhere in the world. The fishing begins in the estuary as the fish turn the corner and enter the river. When you can see, hear and smell the ocean you are mining chrome. Due to the exploration and vision of Untamed Angling it is a place every anadromous angler should dream about. The fishing is on the Irigoyen and Malenguena Rivers, which run through Estancia Maria Luisa. Their size is similar to the medium coastal steelhead rivers of the Pacific Northwest in the US. All fishing is done by wading. Access is by 6x6 Argo Amphibians. These waters are perfect for single handed rods, switchers and shorter spey rods. The average fish is 8 to 13 lbs, with fish reaching 20 to 25 lbs have been caught. Most of the fishing is by swinging floating and sink tip lines. The quality of the fish and the aesthetics of the fishery are like no other.

Stays and 7 nights and 6 days of fishing. There is the possibility for shorter stays in the early and late season

Accomodations

Each two anglers shares a room with a private bath. The main lodge where dthe dining and socializing takes place is just down the path. The intimate setting for 6 anglers with personalized service, outstanding food, comfortable accomodations, all at the end of the world.

Non Anglers / Activities

While it is an amzing and beautiful part of the world it is recommended for anglers only.

Airport / Logistics

Typically anglers fly into Buenos Aires and overnight. The next day they fly to Ushuaia, a 3:40 flight. You will be met at the airport and transferred to the lodge, a 3 to 31/2 hour drive.

Climate

The temperatures range from 40 to 70's in January and February, and earlier and later it ranges from 30's to 50's. The climate is quite similar to parts of Alaska. There can be some rain.

The lodge takes credit cards. You should bring cash for gratuities and fishing license. US dollars are fine at the lodge and in BA.

Gratuities

A suggested gratuity is 10% of the lodge package cost. Guests divide the tip between the guides and the rest of the staff.

Medical Facilities

Both Ushuaia and Rio Grande have private clinics. The nearest first class hospital is in Buenos Aires.

Documentation

US travelers need a passport but not a visa.

Beverages

All beverages including alcohol, water or soft drink are included. If there is a certain kind of spirit you like to drink, feel free to bring it.

The lodge is comfortable and well appointed for six anglers in four bedrooms, each with two beds and a private bath. Even though fishing is number one, you will be pleasantly surprised at the range of cuisine. Hospitality is huge and the wine is Argentine and generous. Going to Tierra del Fuego for me is like going to Alaska: your appetite kicks in.

Even though this is the end of the world (South America) and the next stop is Antarctica, the lodge has the following amenities that we take for granted elsewhere: electricity, drying room for waders and gear with a view, heat, satellite internet and phones.
